The film examines the Soviet occupation of Bulgaria from 1944 to 1947, using archival documents that until now have not been publicly accessible. It reveals the burdens Bulgaria bore in supporting Soviet forces and shows what lies behind the myth of “liberation.” Through newsreels and data, the film presents the social and economic consequences for the country. It received positive reviews and awards for the courage to tell an unpopular story.
