Nowadays you see them through the eyes of a tourist or fail to notice them at all, which is the case of the Palace of the Republic in Berlin. The film “Palace for the People” visits 5 emblematic buildings from the socialist era: massive stone edifices whose facades and interiors, room and furniture arrangement, décor and functionality have a single goal – to present the political system and its values. These are truly astounding buildings, some towering in the sky, like the Lomonosov University in Moscow, while others cover an imposing area like Ceausescu’s Palace in Bucharest.
